Primary schools together received almost £30,000 worth of laptops and computer equipment for pupils during the lockdown.

Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council handed out grants both in September and last month to ten schools, which has been vital to making home learning easier.

The schools which received grants were Kenilworth, Cowley Hill, Woodlands, St Teresa’s, St Nicholas, Meryfield, Summerswood, Parkside, Saffron Green and Monksmead.

Town mayor Simon Rubner said: "The council is very proud to have played a small part in helping these students to maximise their education in what has been an incredibly difficult time for them, their families and their teachers alike.

"I would like to applaud all of these schools, the pupils, their parents and guardians, the staff and the volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes in trying to make sure that the education of these young people is not compromised by the terrible Covid-19 pandemic."

Kate Johnston-Grant, head teacher at St Nicholas Church of England Primary School in Elstree, said: "A huge thank you for this emergency IT grant. This will help hugely with the studies of the young children here at St Nicholas."

Sarah Kneller, head teacher at Summerswood Primary School in Borehamwood, added: "We have developed a new way forward of supporting children’s learning if they needed to work from home and having the ability to spend the money on these computing resources is superb."

Thousands of pounds of laptops were also donated to three primary schools in Borehamwood, funded by the Leecliffe Big Local Partnership.
