SOUTHEND United fans have their say on Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Mansfield Town.

With the chance of moving out of the relegation zone I was hoping for a good performance . However Mansfield were by far the better team we were second in every dept. I have no idea of where the goals are going to come from to keep us up.

@jervetheswerve1

Hardly played anyone as effective as Mansfield this season. They worked hard and in turn showed our inadequacies. Akinola needs help. We won’t get a 30 a season man, but someone who will net five or more and really support the attacking players between now and the end is essential

@piershewitt

Disappointing, uninspiring and very frustrating to watch.

@clarebear62_b

Always going to be difficult against the league leaders and form team this week and we only lost narrowly in both games. However, Akinola needs support,as our lack of goals is killing us. Suspensions and injuries underlines the squad needs strengthening still especially up front

@tommyharris57

Struggled to build any momentum, could not create almost anything going forward but the two times we did the finish was lacking in confidence. The goals we conceded was down to two mistakes the fiest one was poor decision making from ANG and then Halford jumping in. Need a goalscorer

@KetchleyShane

Again beaten by a team with a far stronger squad, a few chances aside, we were always chasing the game, disappointing

@SteveShelsher

The goal we conceded was really poor, however generally we are defending ok. But we don’t score, or ever really look like scoring. When we conceded you knew we weren’t equalising.

@WahlbergBlue

Same problem again as we’re still struggling to create enough danger for the opposition to deal with, meaning we don’t create enough clear chances. A new striker is an obvious solution, but I’d also like to see us sign a 10 to help our creativity, especially now Olayinka is out.

@JoePayne_

Back to square one - before Christmas we were pressing teams high up the pitch and cutting down their options. Mansfield were walking about in possession. Dieng should have got a straight red. We deserved to lose by more than 1-0, desperately in need of another striker

@EssexHarrison

I feel dejected. We are so far off the level needed to survive after what looks to have been a false dawn. Formation and tactics are weak and at the risk of repeating myself we need a striker to play with Akinola

@Bluntswood

Our worst performance since Bradford. Hart was infuriating. Not Molesley's fault we have the injuries we do but you're putting a 36 year old against a fast skilful player in the second half? That's brainless. Shadow of the side that went on the run. We're so much better than that.

@CFConnolly97

Worryingly looked like we’ve gone backwards. The number of players out of position at the end is a concern for Tuesday. Looked disjointed throughout sadly - urgently need reinforcements before the window shuts otherwise we are heading out the league based on that

@Jones616Kevin

Just awful, baffling why Nathaniel-George isn't starting, Halford preferred upfront really ? Wheels are coming off again and the manager's comments afterwards just bizarre, Mansfield could have scored five or six.

@SheldonW65

Can’t help but feel as if we’ve gone backwards over the last few weeks. Performances getting worse, squad getting weaker and results are just rubbish. All of our good work throughout December quickly becoming for nothing. We need to strengthen the squad and fast.

@rajdstubbs

It was like watching blues at the start of the season poor all over. Feel for Sim up top no help and left stranded most the game. The defence is getting there but if we can’t score we won’t get out of trouble!! It’s going to be a long hard run in !!

@Benbishop15

We will almost certainly need 46 points to stay up and to do that we need to win games. We again showed our weakness up front, I fear we won't reach that safety target. Tuesday without Dieng and possibly Macca is going to be difficult to say the least.

@shrimpersaway

Mansfield are a good team and we are not good enough. We know this. We are good enough to avoid relegation however and Bradford is a must win. We could’ve got something by taking one of three good chances but that ability to score goals is the obvious issue! MM needs backing.

@DonsEssex

We need a striker to play alongside Akinola, he is so isolated. Acquah and Halford can do it for the last 10 of a game, but not effective enough for 90 mins. Dieng doesn't deserve his pay this week, awful behaviour from one of our best players this season. We lack creativity.

@DavidBarrett55

Why’s Ron Martin not given MM the extra resources he requires on the pitch? Where are the January transfer window transfers we were promised. More empty promises from our chairman and owner. Only one man to blame for our recent dip in performances

@299Peter

In a normal season this result and performance would’ve just been a bad day at the office. But because of Ron Martin’s disastrous club management results like this take on a huge significance. It’s all on Ron.

@tomjguy

The biggest concern other than the lack of goals are the injuries and suspensions - Macca, Olayinka, Bwomono and Demetriou potentially all injured for Tuesday plus Dieng suspended - we are so devoid of adequate replacements with the exception of Clifford. Halford and Acquah poor

@Ianjholmes

Easy to get negative after a poor performance but look how Mansfield have turned it round all be it with a more experienced squad. Looked tired and devoid of ideas today. Shows how crucial replacement for Olayinka is and a much needed striker. Must get these signings sorted asap.

@Joniboy1976

Without someone up front who can put the ball in the net the outcome of this season is looking inevitable.

@BayesRich

I don't think the players know what or how the manager wants them to play or where to play. A defender up front and our one might aswell of not been there the service he was getting, shocking and backwards again

@FATBOYCLARKIE

Any expectation that we were slowly pulling away from the bottom can go after that dire performance. We look a non-league team and the saddest thing is that our best hope is the National League voiding their season. May happen but depressing we'll probably need that.

@Moorhouse79

This week we have lost to the form team and a team at the top, by the odd goal! We know we need some extra players to support the players, who are out there giving their all. We are still in touch and each week MM learns more about his squad. I'm confident of survival still!

@onlydaniel1987

There’s not a creative body in the squad. To score goals we need to create chances. Whilst results did improve that style of football will never win games. Time to change the manager I’m afraid.

@1970jaya

Absolutely toothless and the manager needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. Acquah and many others just not cut out to be professional footballers. Embarrassed again.

@fatbobslim1

We have definitely improved over the last six weeks but we’ve failed to take the chance to move out the bottom two which I feel would be huge for the players. We won’t score enough goals to stay up at the moment. Don’t trust it will be solved either.

@easymorninrebel

Poor team selection/formation and performance. Seems like we start each game with 0-0 the best result we can hope for. Got to attack more now as nil nil draws will not keep us up and we can’t manage those that much either at the moment. Must win on Tuesday now.
