SOUTHEND United had been due to add another midfielder to their squad this week, only for their target to test positive for coronavirus.

Blues are keen to replace James Olayinka in the centre of the park following the on loan Arsenal man’s ankle injury.

However, the deal – for a player currently out of favour at a League Two club - could not be completed this week but may yet still be revisited.

The Shrimpers now also have fewer options in midfield with Alan McCormack suffering a calf injury during Saturday’s defeat to Mansfield Town.
