JAMES Olayinka has been ruled out of the remaining matches of his Southend United loan spell after scans confirmed he had ankle ligament damage.

The midfielder, who is with Blues from Arsenal, suffered the injury against Grimsby Town last weekend.

And Shrimpers boss Mark Molesley has now confirmed it is not a 'short term' injury.

"We’re still waiting on the definitive results from the scan but he has got ankle ligament damage in there," said Molesley.

"We’re waiting on the severity of that now but we should have more news on that by the end of the day.

"He definitely won’t be available for the weekend or on Tuesday.

"It’s not a short-term one but we will have to wait for the swelling to settle down and a few other bits to determine how long he will be out."

The 20-year-old has three goals in 16 games since joining Blues in October.
