August was when we found out that a new Next Beauty store would be coming to Watford in place of Debenhams.

The store opened early in October and has been popular with residents.

The Next store features two floors – the ground floor is where people can shop for homeware such as furniture and bedding, while the upper floor contains beauty products.

New traffic lights

It was also confirmed that traffic lights would be installed at a junction on the A414 near St Albans.

The new junction would include safe crossing points for pedestrians, cyclists, and horses.

It came after a petition was set up in 2017 by then Colney Heath parish councillor Margaret Nash, who called for traffic lights on the longabout.

Celebration for student

Bushey Academy student Bhavini Patel achieved four A grades, securing her place to study Chemistry at Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall College.

No student from Bushey Academy has ever gone on to study at Oxford or Cambridge until now.

Bhavini said: "I would like to thank all my teachers at the school who gave me great levels of support.

"I am thrilled to be the first student from the school going to either Oxford or Cambridge."

Flypast

A Spitfire flew over Watford with a message of thanks to NHS workers on the underside of its wings.

People in the town were treated to the fly-past with the plane having flown over the borough and Watford General Hospital as part of its route around the UK.
