July was when the John Lewis department store at intu Watford closed its doors for good.

The site in Watford was one of eight across the UK deemed “financially challenged”.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said the closure of the Watford store was “incredibly sad new for our town”.

Before John Lewis confirmed it would close its store, intu announced it would be going into administration.

Watford FC relegated

Watford were relegated to the Championship in July following a tough season in England’s top flight of football.

The Hornets lost 3-2 to Arsenal on the final day of action, ending their five-year spell in the Premier League.

The club has since got used to life in the division below and currently sit fifth in the standings.

Pubs reopen

After being closed in March, pubs were allowed to reopen for the first time July.

Punters headed back to their local on what was dubbed ‘Super Saturday’ at the time, with there being strict measures in place to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Bars, cafes and restaurants were also allowed to reopen.
