Two Covid-19 deaths were reported today at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust as coronavirus cases in the area continue to rise.

The trust, which runs Watford General Hospital, reported two new deaths – both on Thursday, October 8 – today taking the trust to five deaths in the past seven days.

West Herts, which also runs St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital, has recorded a total of 382 covid related deaths.

From September 29 – October 6 (the latest available data) there were 126 newly reported Covid-19 cases in Hertsmere, up from 42 the week before.

During the same period there were 72 new cases in Watford, 76 in Three Rivers and 119 in St Albans.

Today NHS England reported a further 60 people who tested positive for Covid-19 had died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 30,439.

Patients were aged between 41 and 93 years old. All but five had known underlying health conditions.
