It is time to choose a new flag for Elstree and Borehamwood.

Flags are an ancient art form that developed to allow countries, organisation, and bodies an opportunity to display an allegiance and identity.

The spring edition of Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council's Town Crier magazine invited the public to design a flag which would represent what makes Elstree and Borehamwood so special.

A variety of entries were received and last month a panel of judges drawn from across the community selected four designs which will now be put to the public to choose their favourite.

The entries

Flag A is green and yellow representing the fields and woods.

The tree represents wildlife as well as the names of Elstree and Borehamwood - Elstree comes from the name of Tidwilf's tree

The crown is the Anglo-Saxon crown of Mercia.

Flag B is black and white - the colours of Boreham Wood Football club, while the clapper board represents the movies and television filmed at present and former studios in Borehamwood.

The blue is from Hertsmere Borough Council's logo.

The fourth finalist, Flag D, is inspired by Elstree Rural District Council's arms featuring a spool of film, which the flag echoes.
