A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after he was hit by a van.

Emergency services were called to Gateshead Road in Borehamwood just after 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday September 8).

An air ambulance was also called to the scene and landed in a field.

The collision involved a motorbike and a white Ford Transit van.

The biker was taken to hospital by ambulance and police say he has serious injuries but that his condition is not life-threatening.

Police have confirmed a 24-year-old man from Potters Bar was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and GBH.

Gateshead Road was closed between Grove Road and Aycliffe Road yesterday afternoon and evening with several police vehicles in attendance.

The road reopened at 11pm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

Detective Inspector Michael Macbeth, of the Borehamwood local crime unit, said: "We are appealing for witnesses, information or for anyone with relevant CCTV or dash cam footage of this incident to contact us.

"Did you see a white Ford Transit van and a motorbike in the area prior to the collision?

"If you can assist with our investigation please contact us."
