Hertsmere’s MP has thanked the volunteers who organised Borehamwood’s summer meals programme and have helped to distribute thousands of meals to hungry children and families over the summer.

The free meals programme involved several partners who have spent the last weeks supporting families in and around Borehamwood.

The project ran for six weeks during the school summer holiday, between July 22 and September 1.

It targeted the children in Borehamwood who are eligible for free school meals as a way to supplement their diet over the summer and support vulnerable families.

The scheme was funded by the GMSP Foundation - founded by Ramesh and Pratibha Sachdev - with the meals cooked by Compassion London.

Borehamwood-based charity Gratitude, run by John and Sheila Carlisle, have been distributing the food to families, with the project overseen by Borehamwood councillor Meenal Sachdev,

On Friday, Oliver Dowdenand Hertsmere Borough Council leader Morris Bright visited the programme's base, Allum Hall, to meet the volunteers, which Mr Dowden described as an “honour”.

He said: "It was a real privilege to help out at the summer meals programme in Borehamwood which Cllr Meenal Sachdev and Gratitude have set up. "Over the past few weeks, it has helped to give over £260,000 in food to hundreds of local children and I know how valuable its support has been to them at this difficult time.

"It was an honour to thank all those who have helped to make this happen for their hard work and dedication."
