The police officers involved in the viral arrest of a woman in Borehamwood will not be investigated by a police watchdog.

Watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), made contact with Hertfordshire Constabulary following an incident in the town centre on Saturday but a spokesperson has now confirmed there will be no investigation.

A video went viral on social media of a black woman being restrained by several police officers outside a jewellers in Shenley Road.

Shortly after the incident, Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed the woman had been arrested on suspicion of religiously aggravated assault, criminal damage, resisting arrest and a Section 5 public order offence.

But police were criticised by passers-by who could be heard questioning why it needed six police officers to arrest her.

Officers were also criticised by people online who saw the video, so much so, that the IOPC tweeted on Saturday it would be contacting Hertfordshire Constabulary on Monday.

Today (Wednesday), following enquiries, the IOPC issued the following statement.

A spokesperson said: "Following discussion with Hertfordshire Constabulary about this incident, we have been advised that no complaint has been made and the force has not identified any concerns with the conduct of the officers involved.

"As a result, the force will not be referring the matter to the IOPC."

The 32-year-old woman who was arrested by police has been released under investigation.
