Police stumbled across a cannabis factory with nearly 300 plants over the weekend.

Police received a call in the early hours of Sunday morning that men were seen running from a property in Balmoral Drive in Borehamwood.

The report added that males had been seen loading bin bags into a van before making off.

When police arrived in Balmoral Drive, they found cannabis littered around.

Officers were granted a warrant to search a home and inside, they discovered a cannabis factory.

Police say nearly 300 cannabis plants were found which have been seized.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 1.34am yesterday (Sunday 9 August) to reports of males seen running away from a property in Balmoral Drive, Borehamwood, and loading bin bags into a van before making off.

"Officers attended the scene and found cannabis littered around. A section 17 search warrant was authorised and a cannabis factory was found in the property, with no occupants present.

"Officers are investigating and the cannabis has been seized."

Witnesses reported that the house was taped off by police on Sunday with officers going in and out of the house with bags.

There were also forensic police vehicles parked outside the address.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the cannabis factory to get in touch.
