‘Gutted’ and ‘disappointed’ – these are some of the ways Watford FC fans have been left feeling after the club was relegated from the Premier League.

Hornets fans have been commenting on our Facebook page since the club’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal yesterday, which ended their five-year spell in England’s top-flight of football.

Watford have just six weeks to prepare for next season in the Championship, with a number of big issues to address following a season in which they won just eight games and sacked three head coaches.

But fans remain optimistic that the club will be able to return to the Premier League, despite being left disappointed at the club’s relegation.

One reader, Vicky Morris, said she was “gutted” at the news, but felt the club “will be back”.

She continued: “All the boardroom politics need to be sorted, they need to get a manager and stick with them and look at replacing some of the current players. Refresh the squad.”

Samantha Heilling added: “Disappointed . But feel we are in good company with Bournemouth and will be up again soon if the owners stay committed.”

Another reader, Stacey Brand, said: “Disappointed, but they will return more focused & stronger.”

And Chris Shadbolt said: “We will return, and we will stay.”

John Harrison felt the “most important thing is to get the right manager now”, while Christopher James said: “I really think If we can keep hold of Dela, Sarr and Pedro we would have a great forward line. I don't see any club taking a punt on Dela until he is fit again.

“I have a feeling we will be in the top two next year (in the Championship).”

Meanwhile, some fans felt excited at the prospect of having derby games again, with rivals Luton also playing in the Championship next season.

Clive Williams said: “Glad to see the derby games back, hoping to get to see it!

“Football is going to change a lot next season and it needs to.”

John Turner added: “Playing Luton next season, look forward to the positives.”

Watford join Bournemouth and Norwich in being relegated to the Championship, with the season set to begin on September 12.
