Most Watford FC fans believe the club will be relegated from the Premier League following their crucial match against Arsenal later today.

By the end of the day the Hornets will know if they will stay in England’s top-flight of football, with the club facing the prospect of dropping to the Championship after today’s final round of games.

Watford will be taking on the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium hoping to avoid the drop, but with the Hornets in the relegation zone a number of things need to go their way, with results elsewhere having an influence on their final league position.

Simply, the Hornets do not need to win their game at Arsenal, and could even survive with a defeat, with goal difference and goals scored playing their part in determining the final table.

Messages of support as Watford FC faces Premier League relegation

However, they could also pick up all three points today and still go down.

And according to a Watford Observer poll, it seems most fans believe Watford will no longer be a Premier League club come the end of today.

As of 11.30am on Sunday, a total of 711 readers voted in our poll, which asked the question: “Will Watford FC stay in the Premier League or be relegated on Sunday?”

Some 81 per cent of fans believe the club will be going down following today’s match-up, with just 19 per cent feeling the Hornets can come out on top of the relegation battle.

Watford Observer:

Readers also commented their thoughts ahead of today’s big game – and it seemed some were not optimistic of Watford staying in the Premier League.

One user said: “Sadly not – don’t think we will beat Arsenal.

“Have to prepare for a tough life in the Championship I feel”.

Another said: “With the performance this season I can’t see them staying in the Premier League, and if they don’t shape up, they will leave the Championship end of next season into League One.”

One reader said the club have “zero chance” of staying up, while another told fans to “say your prayers” as Watford look to avoid relegation.

What has to happen for Watford to stay in the Premier League?

As it stands Watford are third from bottom with 34 points, just three more than second-from-bottom Bournemouth, but with the same goal difference.

One place above the Hornets on goal difference are Aston Villa, who too have 34 points going into their last game of the season.

They take on West Ham, who are sixth from the bottom with 38 points, at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Watford Observer:

Simply put, Watford need to better Villa’s result for them to stay in the Premier League.

If Watford win today and Villa draw or lose, then the Hornets will stay up.

But if Watford win and Villa win, the Hornets’ victory must be by two goals more than Villa's.

Watford can also stay up if they draw against Arsenal later today, although that is only if Aston Villa lose to West Ham.

There is also a chance of Watford staying up through goal difference if they lose today, but that is only if West Ham beat Aston Villa by two goals more than the Hornets lose by and Bournemouth fail to win against Everton.
