Police have confirmed the helicopter circling Borehamwood yesterday evening was searching for a driver who fled a crash.
Police were called to the A1 in Borehamwood near Morrisons at around 6.30pm on Tuesday after reports of a collision.
A Volkswagen Passat was resting on the barrier on the left-hand side of the road with severe damage to the left and front of the vehicle.
The report police had received from a member of the public was the driver had fled the scene of the crash on foot.
As a result, the helicopter was called in to search for the driver but they could not find them.
Several police cars and a traffic officer were parked up on the A1 northbound yesterday while enquiries were carried out and to allow the vehicle to be recovered.
The road was cleared later that evening.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says enquiries continue.
