Care home residents have spent lockdown slowly transforming their garden.

The garden at Bupa Hill House in Elstree was a dry pond but two residents decided they wanted to improve the look and feel of their outdoor space.

Their idea gained popularity and soon more residents and care home staff were getting involved.

Experts were brought in to give some gardening advice and help plant green beans and spring onions.

The garden is now full of colourful flowers and herbs and more is to come.

The garden is now an enjoyable area to sit and and enjoy the sunny weather whilst taking part in games, quizzes, and parties.

The renovated outdoor space is also helping to combat loneliness with people having to stay apart due to social distancing rules.

A care home spokesperson said: "During the lockdown, our garden proved to be our greatest encouragement and comfort.

"Our residents enjoyed going out in the sunshine to have a cold drink while spending time in the garden.

"They could use gardening as a way of exercising or just to go outside, and it was the best way to combat loneliness especially during this uncertain and difficult period of the of the Covid-19 pandemic."
