A food parcel charity had to grow its output by four times during the coronavirus pandemic due to increased demand.

The Felix Project in Epping – a food redistribution charity – have been helped to supply an extra 2,750 meals thanks to a £500 grant from Tesco.

During lockdown, the Felix Project have seen a massive increase in demand for food packages, as well as having their fundraising efforts completely disrupted.

The team have been able to form an emergency response growing to four times their usual output.

Isabella White, community and challenge events fundraiser at the charity, said: “The very generous donation of £500 could not have come at a more vital time and will enable us to deliver enough food for 2,750 meals for people in need.

The charity received the funding as part of Tesco’s £2million Bags of Help scheme for community groups across the UK following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Jess McCulloch, communications manager for London at Tesco, said: “There are so many people facing such uncertainty at the moment, so the Bags of Help grants we are able to provide will help ease the strain where it’s needed.”
