A loving grandfather has died after he tested positive for coronavirus.

Colin Conrich, who lived in Borehamwood, died at Barnet Hospital on April 10 at the age of 73.

Mr Conrich was married to his wife Valerie for 50 years and he had two sons, a daughter, and six grandchildren.

On March 22, Mr Conrich began to feel unwell and after a few days he was taken to hospital.

He had a high temperature and was feeling weak but his family said he was still cracking jokes despite being ill.

But, Mr Conrich, who had tested positive for Covid-19, passed away on April 10.

Sadly, his family were unable to attend his funeral, but more than 300 people attended a virtual ceremony which was led by Rabbi Danny Newman from Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti Synagogue.

Mr Conrich's wife Valerie said: "Colin will be sadly missed by everyone, especially the grandchildren. He was a very special man and very well liked and there have been hundreds of messages on Facebook."

Mr Conrich was a master picture framer - he had a business called V & C Conrich.

After he closed his picture-framing business, Mr Conrich joined the University of the Third Age (U3A) where he took a particular interest in the history of art.

He could often be found performing in U3A's rock choir.

During his retirement, Mr Conrich gave up his time to volunteer for Borehamwood charity Goods for Good, which offers humanitarian aid to people in need around the world.

The charity's founder, Rosalind Bluestone, paid tribute.

She said: "Colin had the strength and energy of a 25-year-old.

"He could spend half a day without a break, moving heavy boxes and bags around the warehouse and loading them onto vans.

"No matter how long and hard he worked, you never saw him without a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone around him. He was always willing to help us. We are very sad and will miss him desperately."

According to Department of Health figures, as of 5pm on April 19, 16,509 UK hospital patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have died.
