Fuelling the belief that dancing into your golden years is the best medicine, Hertfordshire residents over the age of 55 are embracing the county’s Year of Culture 2020, with a one-day festival.

The event will be held on Sunday, March 8, at Watford Colosseum from 10am to 5pm.

Anyone over the age of 55 is welcome to join in the event for free and no previous dance experience is necessary. Whether they stand, sit or get involved, participants can choose from a range of dance activities including pop, jive and contemporary workshops, and work with a professional, local choreographer, Kate Flatt, to create a routine.

The day will conclude with a free performance at 4pm which is open to all members of the public to attend.

Developed by specialist dance agency BEEE Creative, the innovative Dance Re:Ignite programme, made possible by funding from an Arts Council England Project Grant, was created following growing interest in the power of dance to improve mental and physical wellbeing in later years.

Carrie Washington, owner of BEEE Creative, said: “Dance Re:Ignite is a fantastic opportunity for people to come together to build friendships and develop new skills. We are delighted that this dance festival has become an annual event in our calendar with more and more people becoming involved in the workshops which are running throughout the course of the year.”

Dance Re:Ignite has received support from: Hertfordshire Music Service, Welwyn Hatfield Council, Watford Borough Council, Dacorum Borough Council and local County Councillor Locality Budget and Community budget support. Produced in partnership with Hertfordshire Sports Partnership, Dacorum Community Dance, The Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead, Saracens Sports Foundation and Watford Museum.
