Oswestry Olympians Juniors completed their cross country league season, albeit in a much-shorter time than anticipated following the recent terrible weather.

Youngsters at the club have only completed two races this year, and plans for to extend their season were also hit by the weather.

John Hotchkiss, from Oswestry Olympains, said: “The wet weather has forced an unprecedented shortening of the cross country league programme leaving Oswestry Olympians Juniors having just two races completed this year.

“The Olympians have for many years participated against clubs from across the county in the Shropshire Young Athletes League. Each club normally hosts one race with all completed before Christmas.

“The season started well with a strong club representation at both the Lilleshall and Shrewsbury races. The wet weather then arrived making it unsafe to hold the November and December events in Oswestry and Much Wenlock.

“A replacement was planned for Much Wenlock last Sunday but that being cancelled. With no other weekend free in the athletics calendar the organisers now have to decide what to do with the season’s individual and team awards.”

Members representing the club in both races were:

Under-11 Boys; Tom Johnson, Oliver O’Connor, Jack Hughes, William Jones and Harry Tidridge

U11 Girls; Katie Chisolm, Erin Woolcock, Lily Bowen and Jessica Card

U13 Boys; Archie Calloway, Riley Woolcock and Freddie Heasmer Jones

U13 Girls; Seren Roberts, Jessica Steele, Alex Brown and Lexi Youens

U15 Boys; Ben Rothera and Tom Hotchkiss

U15 Girls; Molly Tinney

U17 Boys; Evan Roberts

U17 Girls; Bethan Jones and Mia Tate.
