Brace yourself for disruption and strong winds up to 50mph as Storm Brendan approaches.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning of strong gusts of wind as Storm Brendan is expected to hit most parts of England and Wales by Tuesday (January 14).

Storm Brendan is mostly affecting The Republic of Ireland at the moment, but it is expected to reach most areas of England tomorrow afternoon and evening as the storm continues to travel east.

You can expect a lot of traffic disruption as there could be delays to road, rail and air transport – public transport is likely to be affected too.

High-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely to feel the strong winds with gusts of 40 to 50mph.

The Met Office also warns of potential short-term loss of power and other services.

Simon Partridge, Met Office forecaster, said: "As it pushes though, pretty much every part of the UK will feel the influence."

The brunt of the wind should ease from the West during Tuesday night.

Frank Saunders, the Met Office chief meteorologist, commented on the forecast for the rest of the week: β€œIt looks like it's going to stay very unsettled, with the potential for further disruptive weather in places.”
