Nominations are now open for a vacant councillor seat in Borehamwood.

Kumail Jaffer resigned from his Labour seat in Kenilworth ward earlier this month, after seven months in the role, to take up a journalist job in Scotland.

A by-election must now take place to elect a new councillor who will serve alongside existing councillors Cynthia Barker and Rebecca Butler.

It will take place on February 13.

If you would like to stand in the election, you must let Hertsmere Borough Council know by 4pm on January 17.

Sam Langford, electoral services manager, said: "Councillors are people elected to represent their local community in the running of their local council.

"Being an effective councillor requires commitment and hard work, but can be exceptionally rewarding. Your influence will make a difference to the quality of people's lives and to the Hertsmere area. You will need to balance the best interests of your ward residents, the borough or county residents, your political party - if you have one - and the council."
