Extra funding of £85,000 has been approved for improvements at a special school in Watford.

Colnbrook School, in Hayling Road, is a specialist primary school for children with learning difficulties, autism and speech and learning difficulties.

It has previously been granted £493,000 for the replacement of a mobile classroom, which will increase the number of places available.

But on Monday (December 16) it was reported to a meeting of the county council’s cabinet that costs had increased by £85,000.

This – it was reported – reflects increased enabling and foundation costs and the addition of toilet renovations to the project.

The additional sum – which will come from the council’s ‘specialist provision capital fund’ – was approved by the cabinet.

Backing the decision at the meeting, executive member for education, libraries and localism Cllr Terry Douris said this was “very welcome”.

He said it would be appreciated by the young people who will go to the school and demonstrates the county council’s commitment to supporting young people.
