Splash Park planned as part of £1.35m plan for Meadow Park in Borehamwood

Recent improvements to Meadow Park have already included a new toddler area, new play equipment, a fitness zone and a landscaped activity area.

Planning permission has also been granted for a BMX pump track too.

But now it has emerged further improvements – including additional sports courts, a bandstand, refreshment facilities and increased parking – are being considered for Meadow Park too.

On November 13, members of Hertsmere Borough Council’s executive gave initial backing to the proposals, that would include a new splash park.

"It is one of the largest schemes and the most ambitious schemes we have ever done in Borehamwood," said Cllr Seamus Quilty, responsible for the environment, said in the meeting.

Outlining the proposals, which would need the backing of the full council, Cllr Quilty pointed to plans to install charging points for electric vehicles and solar panels on the car park, which will be used to light the park.

He also highlighted 60 new trees, new public toilets, refurbishment of sports courts and the extension of cctv.

The plans also include a new enclosed multi-games court, kick-around goal and ‘Toro’ sports court, which has interactive goals – and a pedestrian boulevard.

Council leader Cllr Morris Bright said in the meeting that it was a moment of "great pride" across Borehamood for members to see money being "used for good" in the area for future generations.

According to the report to the executive the splash park would cost around £400k, additional car parking and lighting £400k, the installation of the boulevard with trees and other works £250k and the enhanced sports provision and toilets £300k – bringing the total to £1.35m.

The funding would be met from car park refurbishment reserves (£650k), Section 106 monies (£170k) and community infrastructure levy monies (£530k).

Council officers will now continue to produce a detailed project plan, which will need the backing of the full council.
