The Watford Observer is working alongside the National Animal Welfare Trust to find loving homes for animals.

This week we feature Taz, a two-year-old Jack Russell cross.

Could you be the special person Taz is looking for to give him the loving home he deserves?

Taz, a gentle two-year-old Jack Russell cross, came to the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) as a stray and has found kennel life hard to adapt to. He is sensitive to noise and so the other dogs barking makes him anxious.

Ashley Stevens, one of his three carers at the centre, says he’s had a particularly hard time during the firework season. “Like many pets, this time of year can be stressful and the loud firework noise has made Taz unhappy and distressed. We believe he will thrive so much better in a home environment where he feels loved and secure.”

Taz’s carers at the NAWT have taken their time to get to know him and respected his boundaries to learn what he is and isn’t comfortable with. As a result, Taz realises he can trust them, to the extent that when one enters his enclosure he will roll onto his back, inviting them to tickle his tummy. They can love, fuss and play with him – and even pick him up to carry him out of situations that make him worried when out on a walk.

All his carers love Taz wholeheartedly and desperately wish they could take him home with them to make his life better but, sadly, they can’t do it as Taz needs to be the only dog in the home so he gets all the love and attention. “Once you’ve created a bond with Taz he is an adorable little guy who loves company and is capable of showing affection and friendly behaviour,” Ashley explains.

The centre is open to visitors every day between 11am and 4pm. Email reception@nawt.org.uk or call 020 8950 0177.
