Crown Road development in Borehamwood may not be ready until 2020

The project to build the temporary homes in Crown Road, Borehamwood, was set to be completed by October.

But after a crane struggled to gain access into the site at the end of August, the scheme is unlikely to be ready until the new year.

A large crane had difficulty reversing into the Crown Road site because of vehicles parked near the entrance so now Hertsmere Borough Council has had to apply for a full road closure to ensure there is easy access for the crane next time around.

On August 30 Cowley Hill ward councillor Michelle Vince filmed the crane driver struggling to get into the site

But this is a process that can take up to 12 weeks.

A council spokesperson said: "We faced some difficulties gaining access to the site and, as a result, have had to apply for road closures which is delaying completion at the site.

"We will continue to work to complete construction as soon as feasible and keep disruption to a minimum for nearby residents."

The £2.5m modular home development, which will house Hertsmere residents, either currently living in temporary accommodation or Hertsmere residents living outside the borough, has proved unpopular with neighbours, mainly due to concerns about privacy.
