Firefighters have been tackling a huge haystack fire.

The fire broke out in a field at Drop Lane, Bricket Wood overnight.

Hertfordshire Fire Service said approximately 100 tonnes of baled hay were well alight in a stubble field, in close proximity to a hedgerow and road.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire with a crew from Garston and two crews from St Albans attending.

The farmer was in attendance too and a JCB was used to pull the stack apart, to save unburnt hay and help put the blaze out.

Damping down is still in progress.

Herts Fire Control had tweeted at about 8am: "We are currently attending Drop Lane, Bricket Wood where approximately 100 tonne of baled hay is on fire. Two hose reel jets, portable lighting and hay drags are in use."
