Hertswood Academy is celebrating its best ever average grade A-level results in its history, while one of its students has been offered a place at Oxford.

Despite a temporary set-up at the school in the last few years ahead of a move into a new £34m building next month, sixth form students have excelled with dozens now heading off to university.

A record number of A*-B grades have been achieved and the strong set of A-level results has seen students achieve an average of B.

Rosie Walsh, head girl at Hertswood, scored an A* and 2 A grades, securing a place at Oxford University where she will study history.

She said "Results day was certainly a roller coaster of emotions but I feel incredibly excited and lucky to have a place at Oxford University.

"I never believed that somebody like me would get a chance to study at such a prestigious institution and I could not be more thrilled about this opportunity.

"I’m enormously grateful to all the staff at Hertswood who helped and supported me on this journey and have made my dream a reality, even when it seemed impossible. I cannot wait to see what the future holds."
