People are being reminded to complete the right forms to be registered to vote for national and community elections.

St Albans City and District Council sent out more than 60,000 forms to households in the area last month as part of the annual voter registration canvass to keep the electoral register up to date.

Most of the households have responded but 26,000 have yet to complete the household enquiry form.

The council are now sending postal reminder notices to tell them if they do not complete the forms, they are at risk of not being included on the register and losing their right to vote.

The form lists everyone registered to vote at a particular address and voters should check that the information is correct, and no names are missing or inaccurate.

If you have moved address recently voters are encouraged to look out for the form and check the details.

If no changes are need confirm online at www.householdresponse.com/stalbans or by free phone or text - full details of these included in the form.

Amendments can be done on the website or by post with a freepost envelope included with the form.

Electoral registration officer for St Albans City and District council, Michael Lovelady said: “I’m pleased that so many residents have already responded.

“However, it’s important that those who haven’t done so do this as soon as possible. We want to make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the District.

“To make sure you are able to have your say at future elections, act now and check the form.”
