An upcoming music festival will be headlined by a singer-songwriter nominated for a BBC Sounds of 2016 award.

Music festival Chingfest will take place at Ridgeway Park in Chingford on Saturday, August 31.

The festival headliner will be soul and pop singer–songwriter NAO, who recently held a sold out performance at Somerset House and performed at Glastonbury.

NAO said: “As a former pupil of Leyton Sixth Form College, it’s great to be headlining the nearby festival of Chingfest as my final UK gig of the year.

"Returning home to East London, an area of the UK that massively encouraged my love of music, is really exciting. The Chingfest 2019 line-up will hopefully encourage young people to engage with the underground music scene London has to offer, something I’m a great believer in.”

NAO’s music draws on a range of influences, such as dancehall, R&B and jazz. She released her debut album, For All We Know, in 2016. Her latest album, Saturn, has been described as an experimental exploration of genres.

There will be a range of other musicians at the event, and a DJ Dome. The main stage line-up will also include Incognito, Lemzi, Rose Gray, Bonez, DJ Luck & MC Neat, L.E.A.D.E.R.S, Luke November, Afrikan Simba, Drey Cheekz and more.

As well as music there will be projects such as Human Library and EastSide Story, an original theatre production devised and performed by young people from Waltham Forest.

The DJ Dome will feature the grime music collective Lord of the Mics, an established platform new underground talent, with previous contributions from Skepta, Wiley, Kano and Tinchy Stryder.

Chingfest will take place at Ridgeway Park, Old Church Road, London E4 6RS, on Saturday, August 31 from 1pm to 9m. The festival is free.
