The family of a mother-of-four fighting breast cancer for the second time are raising money for therapy which could save her life.

Melissa Crampton, 40, who has lived in Radlett all of her life, was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy and reconstruction.

Melissa, a former Fairfield Junior and Watford Grammar School for Girls pupil, was in remission but 15 months ago, her breast cancer spread to her liver and spine and doctors have said she has months to live.

'Please help me to keep fighting as this is my only chance of life' Melissa is desperate to undergo immunotherapy in Germany

There is no cure in the UK for Melissa, but her family are hoping she can undergo immunotherapy in Germany, at a cost of £40,000.

For Melissa and her family, it is an opportunity they need to take.

Her mother-in-law, Jennie James, 69, said: "This is everything we are striving for. She has four children; Jorja, 14, Kai, 12, Brooke, 9 and Cady, 7, and all Melissa wants is to be able to see them grow up.

"Melissa and her husband Joe who have been together since teenagers try to keep everything as normal as possible for their children. But Melissa is a fighter and we are all working hard to save her. This treatment is her only chance at life."

The Crampton family

Since setting up a Go Fund Me page, an incredible £30,000 has already been raised by the Radlett community and wellwishers from far and wide.

Jennie added: "It is difficult to put into words how grateful we are as a family to all these people helping to save Melissa's life. We have a team of girls putting together raffles and auctions. We have had support from everywhere."

The immunotherapy Melissa has been booked in for is CAR T-cell therapy.

This treatment changes the genes in a person’s white blood cells (T cells) to help them recognise and kill cancer cells. Changing the T cell in this way is called genetically engineering the T cell.
