A 71-year-old woman has been found dead inside a house in a quiet village.

Police found the body of Christine Ford at an address in High Street, Flamstead, on Saturday evening after forcing their way into the property.

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident after police launched a murder investigation.

A forensic tent was erected outside the address in Flamstead yesterday and there was a heavy police presence in the village. Police say the victim suffered multiple injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem is due to take place today.

Detective Superintendent Joanne Walker said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with Christine’s family at this difficult time.

“They are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers and we are doing everything we can to determine the events that led up to her death.

“If you have any information you believe could help us with our enquiries, then please make contact as soon as possible. I would also like to thank all those who have already assisted us so far.”
