Three men in balaclavas hurled items at staff during a botched burglary at a supermarket.

The suspects forced their way into Morrisons in Borehamwood just after 3am on Saturday via a fire exit, triggering the alarms.

Once inside the store, they tried to take cash from the foreign exchange kiosk.

Brave staff members then approached the gang who started lobbing items at them. In the end, they ran from the store through a fire exit and it's believed they left empty handed.

They made off in a car.

Police arrived and recovered a stolen 4x4 vehicle at the scene. A search of the area was carried out but no suspects were found.

One staff member sustained a minor injury, police said.

Detective Sergeant Annie Waylett, from the Borehamwood local crime unit, said: “This incident left the victims understandably shaken. We are following a number of lines of enquiry and we are doing all we can to trace those responsible.

“If you have any information that could assist us in our investigation, please make contact with us as soon as possible on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/49153/19.”
