An election candidate was out in Borehamwood yesterday canvassing for votes.

Labour campaigners were out in force, including Member of European Parliament Alex Mayer who is hoping to retain her seat at the European Parliament elections.

The elections are set to be held on Thursday 23 May.

David Lidington MP confirmed earlier this month that the UK will take part in the elections because no Brexit deal has been agreed.

Ms Mayer was joined by some Hertsmere Labour councillors including Cllr’s Jeremy Newmark, Richard Butler, Michelle Vince, and Kumail Jaffer.

Ms Mayer is one of seven Labour candidates hoping to be elected as MEP.

She is a member of the European Parliament for the East of England, Amnesty International, Labour Animal Welfare Society and has spearheaded many campaigns.

She said: “For as long as Britain is in the European Union we need British MEPs standing up for the people of Hertfordshire.

"In the European Parliament I have a track record of voting for research funding, to crack down on tax dodgers and to improve working conditions for people on zero hours contracts.”
