The Mayor of London has welcomed celebrations to mark St George’s Day this weekend.

The festivities will take places at Trafalgar Square on Saturday and will include English food stalls as well as musical and stage performances.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “As an Englishman and a Londoner, I am proud to be hosting the largest ever Feast of St George celebrations right here in England’s capital.

“The Feast of St George is a celebration of all that makes England great – its culture, comedy, history and diversity.

“It’s a wonderful way for all Londoners and visitors to the capital to celebrate our nation, and this year it is more important than ever to show that London Is Open – open to people of all backgrounds, to creativity and to fresh ideas.”

Performers include the London Folk Youth Ensemble and the West End Musical Choir.

Professional dance group Frobacks, who appeared on BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer, are also performing at the event.

The group added: “We are so proud to perform at an event which celebrates the cultural diversity of our great city.”
