A man has been jailed after he was caught with a knife for the second time.

Rikki Constable, 26, of Battlers Green Drive, Radlett threw away a locking knife when he was approached by two police officers at a service station on the A41 just north of Hemel Hempstead on August 7 last year.

The knife he threw shattered the windscreen of a car nearby causing £75 worth of damage.

Constable’s car in the service station had been triggered by an automatic number plate recognition camera.

In October 2017, he was caught with a knife.

Appearing from Bedford prison via video link, Constable pleaded guilty to having a knife and causing criminal damage. He has been given an automatic six month sentence due to being caught a second time.

Will Noble, defending, said Constable made full admissions in interview.

At St Albans Crown court today, Judge Caroline Wigin said: "There was no suggestion the knife was used to threaten or intimidate."

She told Constable: "You were in possession of this lock knife and were no doubt panicking.

"You threw it across the car park and it broke a windscreen.

"It was a foolish thing to do in the circumstances. It is fortunate it was only a window that suffered any damage."
