Hertfordshire Euro MP Alex Mayer swapped stitching together European alliances for knitting mini bobble hats, as she joined pensioners at Age UK’s Watford activity centre.
The Big Knit saw high numbers of nimble-fingered needle workers knock together as many as 3,000 little hats used to decorate Innocent Smoothie bottles in support of the charity working with older people.
In return for each hat knitted, Innocent Smoothies donated 25p to Age UK.
Ms Mayer helped a knitting crew spread the warmth at the Clitheroe Club in South Oxhey last Friday.

Ms Mayer said: “Whether you download a pattern and knit a hat on the train to work or invite a group round for a knit and natter, please get involved to support Age UK.
“If I told you I was a natural knitter, I think it’s fair to say I’d be spinning you a yarn, so thanks to the knitting experts offering me a helping hand.
“Sadly, there are older people living in Hertfordshire who are putting on real woollies in an effort to keep warm this winter which is why Age UK’s support to spread the warmth is so vital.”
