More details on the future of Hertfordshire’s hospitals is scheduled to be revealed at a public meeting this month.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group announced the event due to be held at the Stanborough Centre in St Albans Road, Watford from 7pm to 9pm on January 29.

The groups will tell people news on plans for a new facility in Hertfordshire offering planned and urgent care services, currently being considered.

A revised expansion of St Albans and Hemel Hempstead hospitals has been mooted – based on retaining emergency and critical care services in Watford General Hospital.

A “strategic outline case” was submitted to NHS regulators, NHS Improvement and NHS England, last September stating Watford General Hospital would be redeveloped but remain the location for emergency and specialised care; while St Albans City Hospital should be improved to support an increase in surgical procedures.

Separate plans for Hemel Hospital were also floated to revise services for those with long-term conditions and urgent (non emergency) treatments.

Trust executives and senior clinicians will be on hand to discuss any new developments and the public will be able to ask questions.
