A suspected “cannabis farm” was discovered at a house when fire crews were called to tackle a blaze on New Year’s Eve.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service told police they were not needed at a garage fire in Chipperfield Road, Kings Langley on December 31 – but later called back to say a suspected cannabis farm had been found by firefighters inside the property.

Hertfordshire Constabulary were called just before 4am – almost an hour after they were told to stand down – to reports the Class B drug had been uncovered while tackling the house fire.

A 47-year-old man from Kings Langley was arrested on suspicion of being “concerned in the production of a controlled drug”.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police said no one was injured in the fire.

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue were called at 3am to reports of a garage "well alight".

Fire engines from Kings Langley and Hemel Hempstead attended.

The fire was extinguished by 4am.
