The district's MP was the special guest at Epping Town Football Club's home match against Lakeside Reserves last week.

Dame Eleanor Laing was welcomed by club chairman Chris Ottaway who introduced her to other club officials, representatives from matchday sponsors Tricky's Taxis, manager Billy Cove and the players before kick-off.

The club's officials told her of plans for a spectator shelter.

Epping Town won the match 3-0 with a hat-trick from James Peagram on his club debut.

Dame Eleanor said: "I was delighted to accept the club's invitation to their home match on Saturday - and am pleased I was able to bring them good luck.

"There is a wonderful set-up at the club both on and off the pitch with the club working closely with the community with several local businesses showing their support by sponsoring the club.

"This is great to see and I wish everyone involved with Epping Town the best of luck as they press for promotion this season."
