A delegation from China will pay a visit to Borehamwood this month.

Two people from the city of Huianan, a sister town to Elstree & Borehamwood, will be in the UK from December 8 to December 11.

The action packed trip will provide an opportunity for a host of business and educational exchanges.

Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden will host the pair at the Houses of Parliament while locally, they will be given a tour of Elstree Studios.

Discussions will also take place about bringing in a summer school, in involving students from both Borehamwood and China.

Representatives from Borehamwood have already paid a visit to the Chinese city, which has a population of around two million people.

The delegates visiting the UK have paid for the trip themselves.

The twinning was criticised by people living in Borehamwood and Elstree, who “failed to see a benefit for the link” and questioned how trips would be funded.

A trip to China was eventually made, four years after first being mooted, paid for out of the town councillors’ own pockets.

The association has been formed through the town council rather than the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association (BETTA).
