Hundreds of people gathered at remembrance events yesterday to honour those who died serving our country at war.

One hundred years on from the end of the First World War, the towns and villages of Borehamwood, Elstree, Radlett, and Shenley fell silent at 11am.

In Borehamwood, a parade marched along Shenley Road to the war memorial opposite Elstree Studios where a large crowd gathered to pay their respects.

A rendition of The Last Post was played out by Andrew Grady before everyone fell silent.

Councillors, members of the police force, the Mayor of Elstree & Borehamwood, children, and war veterans lay wreaths in tribute those who lost their lives at war while the names of the soldiers were read out one by one.

The parade continued afterwards circling the nearby roundabout before finishing outside All Saints Church, where a service then followed.

The Royal British Legion in Shenley Road hosted its own service later in the day while dozens gathered at Woodcock Hill just before 7pm to light a beacon.

Tributes were also paid elsewhere as people joined the nation in a poignant day of remembrance.
