A gynaecologist who had "disturbing" indecent photos of children and animals has pleaded guilty.

Dr Manish Gupta, who worked at Whipps Cross Hospital, pleaded guilty to possessing 14 prohibited images of a child.

The 47-year-old also had one video and two photographs depicting extreme pornographic violence, and one bestiality film.

Gupta, also an obstetrician who lives in Waltham Forest, also had photos showing violent acts against women.

He wrote the official guidelines on caring for victims of female genital mutilation as co-chairman of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’.

Melissa Garner, from the CPS, said: “Manish Gupta had a number of disturbing pornographic images on his laptops.

"These included 14 prohibited images of children and violent acts against women.

"Some of these were found on a laptop used for work after it was seized by police following a referral from the NSPCC.

“Possessing prohibited and extreme pornographic images is against the law and where there is evidence to do so, the CPS will prosecute those who break the law.”

He pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, October 19 and will be sentenced on November 16.
