A group that brings together people of different faiths planted flowers and trees to represent its members’ religions in a park.
Watford Interfaith Association (WIFA) celebrated its Week of Prayer for World Peace last Wednesday and Sunday at the Peace Garden in Cassiobury Park.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor joined Buddhists, Christians and Muslims and people of other faiths to plant flowers and trees.
A Buddhist woman planted bamboo to represent Japanese Buddhism, and Christians, Muslims and people of other faiths planted colourful bulbs on Wednesday.
Braving the rain over the weekend, people gathered to pray for world peace and planted a fig tree donated by the Muslim community, a Japanese maple and a eucalyptus tree on Sunday.
Members of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue volunteer team also helped with the planting.
Members of the WIFA gardening team meet every Wednesday morning from 10am to 1pm to work in the garden, and some Sundays from 2pm to 4pm.
