A group of 13 caravans and a motorhome arrived at a park which has been heavily hit by travellers all summer.

An encampment turned up at Ripon Park in Borehamwood to the dismay of nearby residents earlier today; however following a quick response by the council and police, the travellers have already left.

Hertsmere Borough Council say some of those who came today had already been ordered to leave before and therefore had breached a notice.

At the last full council meeting, leader of the council Cllr Morris Bright pledged to install bollards around the park at a cost of £40,000.

The council says the bollards will be installed “in the coming weeks”.

People living in the town say some caravans have since been spotted at the bottom of Elstree Hill while others were seen travelling in the direction of Stirling Corner.

There is rubbish strewn across Ripon Park however it is not clear where the rubbish has come from.

There was a large police presence in the park and a number of vehicles were seized, however it is unconfirmed at this stage why that action was taken.

Chief Executive of Hertsmere Borough Council, Dr Donald Graham, said: “Once again, council officers have attended very promptly and have been liaising with the police.

“We are also continuing to do all we can to improve security at our public parks and prevent future incursions by travellers.

“Bollards are due to be installed in the coming weeks as a preventative measure and we will continue to look at other options.”
