A political leader has written to an underfire train company and asked them to visit a station and meet frustrated and angry customers.

Jeremy Newmark, who is the ward councillor in Kenilworth, Borehamwood, as well as the Hertsmere Labour group leader, wrote to the CEO of Govia Thameslink Railway, Charles Horton, this week.

In the letter, he describes the "unprecedented and serious" disruption on Thameslink over the last couple of weeks, ever since a new timetable was implemented.

Borehamwood Times:

Mr Newmark wrote: "The ongoing disruption is having a meaningful impact upon the wellbeing of local people and the area itself. Councillors are receiving many complaints from people who are concerned their employment is at risk and from students concerned about exams.

"When representatives of Thameslink met with residents last year, a series of commitments were made around the new timetable. It seems people in this area have been left with a timetable that falls short of the promises that were made."

Borehamwood Times:

He ends the letter by inviting representatives from Thameslink to visit Elstree & Borehamwood station and meet people in person to talk about the ongoing issues.

Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden has also spoken to Govia Thameslink Railway.

He said: "I have been in contact with Thameslink pressing for action to deal with the terrible disruption over the last few days.

"I know how frustrating this has been for passengers, me included. I will keep constituents updated with their response. We all know there will be teething problems with a new timetable but this has gone on too long."

Govia Thameslink Railway and Network Rail issued a joint statement on Thursday morning apologising for the problems people have faced and offered an explanation.
