A father-of-two is desperately trying to raise enough money for treatment after he was diagnosed with liver cancer.

Ryan Cox, of Gateshead Road, Borehamwood, was a “young healthy, fit dad” when he was told he had bowel cancer in May last year.

After three months of gruelling chemotherapy, the tumour shrank and he had a successful operation to remove it.

But then a few months later, the 29-year-old was given the devastating news that his cancer had spread to his liver.

Mr Cox, who works as a car mechanic in Potters Bar, is not giving up without a fight.

Although he has not asked doctors how long he has to live, he believes his only hope is an expensive treatment which is not available on the NHS.

The immunotherapy treatment could help boost his body’s natural defences, giving him a better chance of fighting the tumour.

But now Mr Cox and his family need to raise at least £100,000 for a year's treatment.

Mr Cox, who is a father to Alfie, five, and Grace, one, is so grateful for the “generous support” he has received so far.

The former Hertswood Academy student said: “I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone that has donated and sent their support and good wishes to me and my family through this rough time.

“I’ve been told by the doctors now my best hope is with a treatment called immunotherapy.”

His partner Lauren Foy added: “Thank you to everybody. People we have never even met have donated.

“It means so much to us.”

Mr Cox’s best friend, Dean Steadman, who is a godparent to Alfie and Grace with his partner Jodie, has created a JustGiving page to help garner support.

It has raised £15,000 so far.

Mr Cox says he hasn’t asked the doctors how long he has to live but is remaining positive as he fights his battle.

His family will be holding a fun day fundraiser in April.
