Primary school children took part in a competition to name the four suites at a new care home.

Year 5 pupils St George’s Catholic Primary School, in Sudbury Hill, Harrow, put their heads together to come up with a list of names that have cultural or historical reference to them for the Buchanan Court Care Home, which will open in Sudbury Hill later this year.

The suites will be named after four notable figures from Harrow.

The Rosen Suite has been named after children’s author, Michael Rosen; the ‘Byron Suite’ is named after Lord Byron, a famous poet from the area; the Winston Suite to commemorate one of the town’s most important former residents, Winston Churchill; and the Elton Suite, which is named after musician, Sir Elton John.

Shirley Sexton, class teacher at the school, said: “The suite naming activity not only gave the children an excellent opportunity to learn all about the new care home here in Harrow, but it also encouraged them to think about the history and geography of their local area when seeking out inspiration for their entries.

“The activity was enjoyed by all the children here, and we hope to do more with the team at Buchanan Court in the future.”

Samantha Neal, customer relations manager at Buchanan Court, said: “As we gear up to welcome the first residents to Buchanan Court later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with St George’s Catholic Primary School, and to get to know our neighbours a little better.

“The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen four names.”
