A New Zealand couple have created two wines to remember their connection to the town.

Jane and Peter Clark moved to New Zealand in 1979 and 20 years ago established their vineyard in the Awatere Valley in the south of the Marlborough wine region.

After growing for others they produced their first wine in 2006 and named it Boreham Wood because of their strong connections to the town.

Borehamwood Times:

Mr Clark said: "Borehamwood is Jane's home town and we were married in All Saints Church. It was a military wedding with a guard of honour that brought Shenley Road to a standstill.

"My mother-in-law Beryl Strange was born and lived in Furzehill Road and after marrying Bob Uden in 1941 they lived at Hillside Avenue until it was destroyed by a bomb in 1940 and then moved to Bullhead Road where Jane was raised."

On Mr Clark's side his father Les Clark lived in Shenley Road where his grandfather was a carpenter, builder and undertaker. Les and Beryl went to school together in the 1920s. Mr Clark's first home was at Willow Way, in Radlett.

The Boreham Wood brand is sold in New Zealand and Australia as well as by independent wine shops throughout the UK.

With three varieties in the range, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling, the Clarks have collected a boxful of competition medals along the way. Their own family are deeply involved in their winery, Clark Estate, with son Simon the winemaker and vineyard manager while daughter Sarah is in charge of sales, exports and logistics.

The family have also created a wine aimed at Watford FC fans called Watford Hornets.

Borehamwood Times:

Mr Clark said: "I have been a keen Watford FC supporter for more than 50 years and we have released the 2016 vintage of my favourite Watford Hornets Sauvignon Blanc.

"This is the best vintage yet consistent with the Hornet's lofty Premier League status.

"A red letter day for me was enjoying a pre-match lunch with Graham Taylor, then a seat in the Directors Box, when we launched the first Hornets wine in 2008.

"It is dedicated to everyone at Vicarage Road to recognise all the pleasure the Club has given me over so many years."
