On Friday, August 1, my husband who is in a wheelchair and I were trying to get on a bus at the stop opposite Morrisons. There was a woman with a buggy who would not make way for us, so I had no alternative than to take the chair down the ramp backwards, the chair gathered speed and we both finished up in the ditch, which usually has water in it.
How we did not sustain serious injuries I do not know. All three emergency services were called and it took five firemen to pull my husband from the ditch, as well as myself. The wheelchair was a right off.
All this because a woman would not make way for a wheelchair, which I believe has priority.
Our thanks to everyone who tried to help – passengers and emergency services.
